I don't usually like EDM-style stuff but Crypt of the Necrodancer does it really well, even better than Terraria imo. The song titles are all fun and the musical style reminded me of what was once my favourite Hot Wheels car too. I guess that shouldn't be surprising for a rhythm game tho, doot doot!

Also there's a metal version of the soundtrack. Squiggle like!

Roleplay Workshop / Sith and music
« on: 11/19/19, 09:40:49 PM »
Are there any bits of lore about the Sith and music, or their thoughts on music? I've never actually heard any references to a Sith playing instruments or singing, not even stuff like melodic ritual chants and hymns.

I can totally see some Sith taking a stance against music because it can evoke unintended emotions, or because it's a petty waste of time compared to getting swole. I can also see the opposite tho, because freedom is (at least in theory) a big part of Sith philosophy and presumably that doesn't just mean exercising their radical freedom to buy fancy overpriced perfumes.

I don't really need an excuse to give my Darth a lyra, she is totally a lawful evil bard and was originally a Jedi anyway, but i'm curious to hear if anyone else has thought about in-universe Sith music. Or even Jedi music for that matter.

For once I actually have something that I want to sell instead of buy, Darth Malgus's Breastplate (just the chest part)! Though i'm not sure if anyone will want it, it's overpriced and looks kinda bad? And also I think it's covered in radioactive soot, I put it through the washing machine but my vision still goes kinda fuzzy whenever I walk into my wardrobe. Who would drop a perfectly good Darth into an exploding space station's hypermatter annihilator like that?

There's only one on the GTN for 10 million credits so maybe someone can flip it for a profit, I just want to get rid of it immediately so I can fund my fashion lol. I think i'm looking for like 6-8 million based on that GTN price, but I really don't know what i'm doing so it's very negotiable. Trades for other armours or decorations or other things are also welcome!

I only counted five terms related to storms or electricity in the Sith sorcerer's new stuff. Five. Is this what passes for zapping these days? You can't just give the Jedi no force lightning abilities and then not give the Sith all force lightning abilities, that's terribly unbalanced. Now excuse me while I go play AC/DC's Thunderstruck on my electric guitar with a tesla coil amp repeatedly until Bioware fixes this serious flaw.

More seriously, I don't think a lack of super special new content is an excuse not to get back into roleplay. The game can't make up all your plots or manage your schedules, all it does is provide a background, and it'll do that just fine whether you're on some fancy new planet or on Ord Mantell! It's not like you even have to pay or play for it really, if you unlock unified colours then you're set to roleplay without a subscription forever lol.

You're doing great at getting the site back up!

I have to ask though, how did the hosting service physically lose the entire server? I'm guessing it was ninjas, but I never got an HTTP status code for "someone shot the server" so idk what they did with it exactly.

Asli and Decilian

Master Decilian Ansara is a Tionese Jedi librarian, formerly a member of the Kamparas Enclave's local council before its destruction in the Great War. A perpetually inquisitive and curious individual, she studies philosophies from across the galaxy to better understand the cultures and peoples behind them, with a particular focus on ethics and force studies. Her padawan is Asli Eliyara, a traditionalistic sojourner from Haashimut with a natural affinity for telekinetic abilities.

"Tu tires comme une fille!"

Alonni Lumiere is a young Begeren noblewoman and Sith warrior apprenticed to the head of the Inquisition, Darth Tyria. What Alonni lacks in sorcerous power she makes up for through masterful dueling skills, wielding a perfectly balanced lightfoil in an elegant and aggressive Makashi style.

Alonni's Lightfoil

The lightfoil is a unique lightsaber variant used mainly by Sith form II duelists, originally designed for the Mecrosa Order's force-sensitive assassins during the Great Sith War. Lightfoils are smaller, lighter, and have a less pronounced gyroscopic effect than a standard lightsaber, though unlike an offhand shoto they don't have a shortened blade. They're well-suited to rapid attacks, one-handed use, concealment, or even use by non-force sensitive warriors, and many of them are built with saber-resistant basket or cup hilts to protect the wielder's hand when thrusting.

I designed a Kufic-esque Kitt√Ęt font for Sithy calligraphy because I thought it might look nice and I don't want to manually draw the text every time I write Sithy stuff. Unfortunately I have no idea how to make it into an actual typeface I can type with lol.

The first row has all the plain consonants, the second row has vowel diacritics at 200% size, the third row has the W and Y consonant clusters, and at the bottom is a small sample word which says hello!

Roleplay Workshop / Sith Order-Sith Intelligence relations?
« on: 06/18/19, 09:23:47 AM »
I recently decided that I should probably have a Sith Intelligence character, so I made one. Now I realized that I don't know anything about Sith Intelligence or their predecessor because the last time I did something involving them as protagonists was like 5 years ago lol.

So what's the dynamic between the Sith and their current intelligence service? Are they a totally isolated branch who only take orders from their own non-Sithy commanders (aside from the head of whatever sphere it is) or are they like the military where Sith have their own personal groups of intelligence officers mixed in with the normal Imperial ones? I seem to recall it was implied that Sith Intelligence would be built with more Sith oversight in the Imperial Agent story, but I don't know how Imperial Intelligence was set up previously for comparison and I don't remember having many Sith/intelligence officer interactions in Sith or Agent quests either.

Star Wars needs more mediterranean style! I always imagined Malaji with a kind of Byzantine aesthetic, but when I wanted to draw recently I found that Byzantine armour has absolutely no interesting features to speak of for inspiration, so... hoplites instead! And a trireme of sorts.

Some of us are still here and trying to do RP occasionally! Even with the screwed up story it's not actually that hard to justify the fun pub vs imp stuff, or especially sith vs sith stuff for that matter. It's not like there's a big community to coordinate with anymore lol, you could practically just ignore the expansions entirely if you wanted and do whatever you like, just need to plan something with one of the few remaining active players.

I don't know anything about community drama but I do know that a lot of people moved over to the other server because it's more active, if you're willing to start over (or have hundreds of dollars to spend on character transfers) you're probably better off going there for RP. You might find a lot of familiar faces!

The CM personnel decoration bundles are on sale for 40% off, if anyone has the coins i'd love to buy a few of them! The Imperial and Republic military ones are both 420 coins, the force user one is 660. I think a lot of other decorations are on sale too, it seems like most of them are actually.

Too burned out to do much art lately. :/ But I did a starfighter this week tho and it looks like a birb, I think I want to do my SWTOR characters' ships too but i'm still feeling very unmotivated lol.

Scorpion Queen

The Type-122 Ruba'i (meaning quatrain) is a stealthy single-seat light strike fighter which serves as the backbone of Mantle aviation. Equipped with 4 rapidly firing Type-93 light storm cannons, internal weapon racks with room for up to 6 250mm bombs, a powerful shield generator, intensive radiation and magical hardening, and a silver cerement adaptive camouflage system, it is more than capable of holding its own against almost any similarly sized vessel and providing quick support to ground troops.

Like most other strike craft in the Dominion, the Ruba'i uses a compact flying wing design to provide maximum manoeuvrability. Its variable-sweep wings are primarily meant to save space when stored in a naval carrier, but they also serve to improve performance in supersonic atmospheric flight. Uniquely for such a small vessel, it has no glass or sapphire canopy, instead the pilot is seated deep in the middle of the craft beneath a well-armoured hull and using an extremely advanced HUD to provide visual information.

This particular craft is a Type-122 Nam.3 flown by the famed ace pilot Munaa al-Haqai, champion of the Twin Suns Armada and commander of Demonsoul Wing. Its namesake is the Scorpion Queen, a prominent figure in pre-Caliphate Aqylan mythology known for her vicious and precise combat skills. Such elaborate nose art and paint schemes are very common on the planes of veteran pilots.

Cantina / Re: Theme songs for your toons
« on: 03/09/19, 12:17:46 AM »
I've finally done it! I've found songs that fit the feel and tone of all my important RP characters, and even most of the ones who aren't important too. The Sith are all scary, the pubs are mostly sad and action-y, the rest are whatever. Have been shuffling some around a bit but I think what I have now is the best character-theme matchups I can get, I even did all my Guild Wars 2 characters too lol.

Darth Malaji Vaal - Vampire Hunters (Bram Stoker's Dracula)
An ominous and foreboding track for the most depraved of alchemists. She never drinks... wine.

Darth Nefret - Ludwig, the Holy Blade (Bloodborne: The Old Hunters)
This is the right song for someone whose fighting style can be accurately described as a thunderstorm. It sounds like something you'd play whenever someone intrudes in your gothic mansion while it's raining and thundering outside, which is basically the story of her life.

Darth Hayal - Dance of the Cryptek (Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus)
The creepiest dubstep one can possibly find. Great for a cybernetics-obsessed darth!

Lord Zavy - The Four Horsemen (Battlefield 1: Apocalypse)
A soldier-turned-Sith gets some depressing, suspenseful ambience but in a way that almost sounds like a military march.

Lord Zamara - April 1945 (Fury)
She doesn't talk much, too busy systematically tormenting and oppressing rogue Sith or mischevious Jedi with extreme efficiency, fortunately this music says that without words.

Lord Arytis - The Old Blood (Wolfenstein: The Old Blood)
I knew this was the perfect theme for a Reclamation Service affiliated Sith as soon as I heard it in the game. It sounds like you're exploring an ancient haunted ruin, but evilly.

Phayri Vaal - The Mordrem (Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns)
She has her mother's sinister nature but a lot less dark side vampirism and much less training too.

Vacas - Necrons (Dawn of War)
A cybernetic chiss sith assassin apprenticed to a cybernetic pureblooded sith alchemist. The music is a good fit to describe how I never ever want to be anywhere near anything in that sentence.

Sadia Najat - Harbinger (Doom 2016)
She can stay calm for a minute or two on her master's orders. After that it's slicey lightsaber adrenaline time tho.

Alonni Lumiere - The Nightmare Court (Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns)
Too young and untrained to be a major threat, but she's the apprentice of Darth Tyria for good reason. Not an intense song, but a sinister one that builds up over time.

Adaliss Paran - Ravager (Terraria: Calamity Mod)
The hound of Darth Vaal, a fallen Jedi Knight, practically a slave but loyal until death. An intense track for a warrior with a very slight hint of sadness for her mental turmoil and fall from grace.

Zara Saitan - The Dark Eldar (Dawn of War)
The Mecrosa Order does not take prisoners, they take victims.

Moff Csa'lir'idi - Shatter the Empires (Hearts of Iron 4: Man the Guns)
I think this track has a very good sound for a naval officer, but with a bit of an oppressive or evil tone from the choir and such, so it fits nicely for my one high-ranking Imperial Military leader and R&D patron.

Captain Kiriona Aki - Corridor of Death 2 (Call of Duty 3)
An ISF commando gets the most sinister march, they're far beyond the half-hearted fodder of the Imperial Army in discipline and depravity.

Lieutenant Colonel Vasilla Alo - All the Fury
Corporal Akelsa Xeros - Adapt or Perish
Private Phaedra Vere - From Hell's Heart
All my 27th Airborne troopers have music from the same game, Crysis: Warhead, because it's the only one I could find with something fitting for all 3 lol. Vasilla, the frontline officer, deserves the most intense one because she's proven her abilities repeatedly under fire. Akelsa, the sniper, gets a fast-paced one because her job is to hunt and kill. The engineer, Phaedra, is more down to earth and usually blows things up before they can be threats, so she gets one with a slower pace but a strong beat.

Ziani Olosa - Agent Tex (Red vs Blue)
An agile dual-wielding rootin' tootin' mandalorian jetpack gunslinger in the service of a Sith gets some fast-paced western-esque guitar music.

Master Decilian Ansara - Glint's Legacy (Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns)
A Jedi who only barely held on through the last war, now starting to find herself again after getting a new padawan and some allies in the Republic Army.

Master Qelian Saida - London in Flames (Hearts of Iron 4: Together for Victory)
Another Jedi who's been through too much, slipping closer towards the dark side with every skirmish despite her desire to do what's right.

Padawan Asli Eliyara - The Fungal Planet (Civilization: Beyond Earth)
A young traditionalistic mirialan apprenticed to an old veteran, I think Beyond Earth has the best possible theme music for someone with so much to learn and explore.

Special Agent Serama Lirus - Covert Action (Fallout 4)
People working under the radar don't need action-y soundtracks, just a cheap apartment and some makeshift listening equipment.

Captain Lyara Idros - Iron Gods (Arma 3: Tanks)
Military music with a mildly sad tone for a widow fighting to ensure that nobody else suffers her loss.

Sergeant Zoe Adelia - The Storm (Battlefield: Bad Company 2)
One of my only pubs who isn't a nervous wreck, so she gets some energetic and upbeat military-esque orchestral music!

Dalia Al-Aziz - High Roller (Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire)
Filled the table! They're my credits now.

Guild Wars 2

Celeste Riviere - A Part of Their Story (Divinity Original Sin 2)
An aristocratic Ascalonian mesmer with a love for exploring, working alongside the Pact in recent times. This song has a nice adventurous feel and gets more intense over time, just like how she got more intense after deciding to help fight those mischevious little dragon things.

Samiyyah - A Brotherhood of Heroes (Call of Duty: WWII)
A Kournan elementalist of the Zaishen Order, devoted to mastering war and fire in the name of her god Balthazar. While wholeheartedly devoted to violence, she has a strong code of honour as well, something which I think the track catches well.

High Priestess Scyriss - Marauders Arrive (Solo: A Star Wars Story)
Epic choirs are required for ancient demons of forbidden knowledge, that's just how it works. Being fast-paced fits too since dervishes really like to whirl and nobody can keep track of anything a mesmer does.

Priestess Farayoun - Love Secret (by Mehmet F. Nalinci)
An Istani firebrand and priestess of Kormir with a troubled past, but she's come to peace with it for the most part.

Hierarch Zahra Vanak - Last Moments of Love (by Omar Faruk Tekbilek)
A disgraced spellbreaker previously in the service of King Joko's Mordant Crescent, now forced to forge her own path.

Slayer Vasai Zinghu - Stardust Crusaders (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders)
A spy's extremely queer globe-trotting adventure to defeat evil creatures through the use of magic and martial arts while gathering a group of unlikely allies for help along the way? Yes! This track has action for a not-so-subtle spy and also enough jazz to sound a bit underworld-y, it's definitely the best character theme I have lol.

Now if only I could get faceclaims and voice actors for everyone...
