However, I think the writing has been on the wall for a fair amount of time that this particular site may be slowly outliving its usefulness for the cost and upkeep.

Well, I knew the day was coming but it's still sad. However, I understand completely. Thanks for keeping it up for this long Artisan. :aww:

Thanks to everyone here that made up our little community. I have a lot of great memories and the RPs helped me get through rough spots in life. For those of you that haven't hopped into the Discord serer, I wish you well. May we cross paths again.

For those of you in the Discord, I'll be back around once I can get my life in order.

To everyone, take care.

This is the way...

Aye - to repeat what Pehn stated - thank you x100 for working to keep the site up and running all these years (esp. the years of less activity).

And thank you for giving us all a heads up - I was actually wondering this exact thing to myself the other day (When the site might be taken down, for the same reasons you gave.) - so very much appreciate the ample time for us to grab whatever posts or information we wish to keep before it goes poofers.

If anyone wishes to keep in touch and doesn't already have my email (or whatever contact information) please feel free to PM me!

And may the Force be with you all!  :aww: :aww:

Site Information and News / Upcoming Site Shutting Down
« Last post by Artisan on 08/04/22, 08:09:48 AM »
Hi everyone, it's been a while since we talked!

BC.org has had a fair run of many years, and I think many of us have had great memories and made great friends here.

However, I think the writing has been on the wall for a fair amount of time that this particular site may be slowly outliving its usefulness for the cost and upkeep.

Since the change in ownership a couple years ago, I have been keeping the site up entirely by myself monetarily and technically, and having not been involved in the roleplay or SWTOR play interactions for some time, I nonetheless kept BC.org working out of a sense of devotion and connection to the community.

I think from observations, much of the community interaction outside of game has moved on to the Discord server, however (see Discord widget on the bottom left sidebar). And I think it may be time to finally pull the plug on the forums site itself.

I recognise that many of you have a lot of memories stored here, and I would encourage you to take your time over the coming months to retrieve what information you can from the forums threads. Unfortunately given the custom-built nature of this website, it's not easy to take the database data and simply transfer it to another cookie cutter service, and keeping the site up as a static site nonetheless will require ongoing server upkeep and payments that I don't think will be worth the monthly and yearly expenses.

You will have until October 31, 2022 to both get everything you'd like as well as make contact with people from this community that you may only be able to contact via DMs here - and trade any info you would like to keep in touch. After that I will be taking the site down.

Keep in mind that the Discord server will remain up and I will continue to run it as long as Discord keeps such servers free. Please also consider joining the Discord if you wish to continue to keep in touch with the community.

It's been a ride! Here's to the last few months of BC.org! And thank you all for the wonderful community it's been all these years.

EDIT:
With a helpful friend I was able to get a rough public web scrape of the site, and the html pages are hosted here:
https://begeren-colony.netlify.app/

The formatting is off, but it should have all publicly accessible threads (threads you can access without logging in).

Note that no private or restricted information is present: i.e. private messages or ANY of the guild forums - that is, anything that requires you to log in to access.

The files will remain on the Netlify site until such time as Netlify stops hosting freely. Hope this cuts down on the number of things you have to copy/paste at the moment for your records, though I still recommend you keep permanent offline records for yourself.

Please note some of the Netlify html files still reference links on this site, which will disappear when the site goes down. Make sure you figure out what you'll have available vs not.

Been designing lightsabers this week, some based loosely (or not so loosely) on in-game designs while others are totally unique.

Darth Vaal's lightsaber is a force-activated split staff design with distinctive sharpened blades around each emitter. The main body is constructed out of durasteel with neuranium reinforcements and blades to inhibit disarming attacks, giving the full saberstaff a hefty 7 kg mass. It's a full meter long including the blades, and still nearly 68 cm only counting from emitter to emitter.

Malaji's current saber is based on her previous Jedi lightsaber, reusing most of the core components and retaining a similar style. The original used conventional controls and had a less austere appearance, with leather grip wraps and an Osmiridium-plated casing. This weapon was cut in half early in her Sith career, being rebuilt as a split saber and modified with lightsaber-resistant materials to resist future damage. The axe heads were added after the war ended, supposedly as a means of bloodletting defeated opponents to satiate Malaji's newfound thirst.

Lord Zavy wields a long lightsaber pike with a dual-phase system to change its blade length on the fly. This pike is built mainly out of phrik coated in corrosion-resistant manganese brass, plus shiny arcetron decorative accents, Sullust leather grip wrappings, and a mullinine lattice inside the shaft to maximize strength without too much weight. Overall it weighs a hair over 7 kg and is balanced perfectly around the center of the shaft, most of its mass coming from the reinforced phrik body and the heavy duty power cell inside.

As a backup, Zavy also carries her original lightsaber, a fairly typical design made of standard saber alloy coated in manganese brass plus arcetron decorations.

Lord Arytis's lightsaber is fitted with large weights around the emitter to drive its center of mass further forwards, making heavy sweeping strikes slightly easier. It's constructed of standard saber alloy with a rubber grip.

In addition to her saber, Lord Arytis often carries an electrowhip with razor sharp crackers, useful as both a mobility-restricting weapon and a mobility-enhancing tool. This whip was gifted to her by Queen Scajia of Zygerria for her aid in resolving a succession crisis, with aurodium plating and a wroshyr heartwood grip to give it a distinguished royal flair.

Lord Kyras wields a weapon rebuilt from her original Jedi lightsaber. Rather than simply replacing her focusing crystal with a synthetic substitute, Kyras chose to turn the original purple Adegan crystal red through a traditional sorceress's rite known as bleeding, where the crystal is essentially tortured into submission. The ritual helps bond the user to their lightsaber and serves as a test of strength, as the crystal itself will actively resist conversion, however it does produce a weaker and inferior blade compared to plain synth crystals.

This bleeding had the unwanted side effect of fracturing Kyras's crystal, which contributes to the blade's unstable appearance and excessive power draw. Most of its modifications exist to help contain all the leaking energy from her cracked crystal, which would otherwise cause the saber to overheat or simply short out in combat. Most notable among these countermeasures is a blade overcharge feature which can (somewhat inconsistently) short out other lightsaber blades and melt through denser materials much faster than usual.

Phayri Vaal's lightsaber has a curved hilt which helps extend her reach during leaps and dodges, with a gilded ultrachrome and durasteel housing giving it a visually striking appearance.

Alonni Lumiere wields a lightsaber with a distinctive hemispherical phrik guard and neuranium crossguards, providing extra protection for her aggressive thrust-focused dueling style. She sometimes pairs this with a similarly designed shoto for parrying.

Kadha Jatar utilizes a blue-bladed dual phase lightsaber with an ornate gilded exterior. Its blade can be switched from that of a standard lightsaber to a long lightwhip by unlocking and rotating its crystal housing, with telekinetic controls to make it difficult for opponents to utilize this feature.

Master Ansara wields an ornately decorated saberstaff plated in Haysian gold. Its odd profile is a result of several decades of tinkering, upgrades, and field repairs.

Master Saida uses a telescoping lightsaber pike clad in starkly contrasting bronzium and durite. Its collapsing handle is essentially a long volute spring made of a thin metal sheet, with structure and lightsaber resistance provided by an electroactive mesh liner on the inner walls which becomes rigid when powered. This shaft can withstand sharp blows like any solid pike while staying thin enough to collapse into the saber's hilt.

Asli Eliyara fights with a standard lightsaber and a shoto, both sharing an easily concealable streamlined design and a polished alloy exterior. They're often hidden within her scannerweave scarf or elsewhere in her clothes, allowing her to maintain the appearance of a plain old civilian.

Day 30!!!!!!

Freedom! I mean, we did it! We survived November. Even if you didn't write, be proud of yourself for making it to December. This year has been rough.

However, we are finally at the end of NaNoWriMo and I couldn't be more relieved. I plan on taking a week off from writing after this... but! After that, I think I will try to set some new writing and story completing goals and keep the momentum going. :D Kinda. Keep an eye out for my future, non-NaNoWriMo thread if you'd like to keep writing with me.

Regardless, thanks again to those that have been keeping up with this thread and those that have been writing. I hope you've made a little progress in your writing goals and I'll be happy to see what you'v come up with if you post on this forum.

While the NaNoWrimMo crazy is over for this year, there's always the next! Let's do this again next year BC.Org Wrimos and remember... Keep. On. Writing!

:cheer:  :cheer:
